Save the Date for Spotlights on Reading Production Feb. 17 and 18, 2012

 

Following in the footsteps of the successful "Children of the Dust Bowl" Reader's Theater production from last year, this year's Spotlights on Reading fundraising event for literacy will feature "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten" by Robert Fulghum and adapted by Ernest Zulia which is again produced by Kimberly Ogden.  The Feb. 17 performance will begin at 7 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception at a ticket price of $25.  The Feb. 18 performance will begin at 6 p.m. with a dinner at a ticket price of $30.  Both will be performed at the Petersen Event Center at 720 12th St. in Modesto.  Tickets are available by calling 522-0656 or online using a donation form and putting the comment of "tickets for Spotlights" in the comment box, the date of the performance and the number of tickets being ordered.      Click here    to access the form.

 

Next Tutor Training and Orientation January 18 and 21, 2012

 Anyone who is wanting to become a volunteer tutor must first attend a new tutor orientation and training.  The next opportunity is an orientation on January 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the downstairs Modesto Library at 1500 I Street.  The training is the following Saturday, January 21,  from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1230 13th St. Ste. Wine Jazz and a Movie 2011 at the State Theatre September 29 is best event yet

 


This year's Wine Jazz and a Movie event featured the movie, "Beyond the Blackboard" -- a Hallmark Hall of Fame production in cooperation with The Hallmark Channel. Stacey Bess, the person whose true story inspired the movie which was based on her book, "Nobody Don't Love Nobody," attended the event to tell her story and introduce the movie.  This year's event netted over  $12,000 for literacy.
